Calendar Queen

My life revolves around my laptop, my school books, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, my calendar. I will be busy from here until next May I suppose. Trying to finish a degree is pretty hard work.

I finish my job with Portsmouth on the 1st and my Initial Observation starts on the 2nd. I'll be observing a Special Education Cross Categorical (ahem, scuse me...let me explain... Emotionally Disabled and Learning Disabled) classroom. The teacher is more of a resource teacher. She has 12 3rd graders and 8 kindergarteners. I'm really excited to get started. I have always had a special place in my heart for SpEd kids...ever since Michael (who has down syndrome) was my PE buddy in 3rd grade. :) I wonder how he's doing.

So, anyways, the pool also opens on Monday...so when I'm trying to relax, that's where I'll be...sleeping poolside. Oh its gonna be sweet.

Hey, JennyPenny we need to go on that cruise still...

BRAC List

I guess we won't be moving to CT after all...

NAVY CLOSURES: The "big" Navy closure in this round is the New London Submarine Base in Connecticut. This is going to directly take 7000 military personnel and 1000 civilian jobs out of the Groton-New London community; the ripple effects will be devastating to the local economy.

Senator Joe Lieberman is (understandably) not happy.

...Lieberman called the decision “irrational and irresponsible. “It insults our history and endangers our future,” the Democratic senator said. "...To close this base is unthinkable."
New London is considered to be the birthplace of the submarine force, and hosts several undersea warfare training facilities. It's not clear where these functions would be relocated. The submarines themselves could go to Norfolk, VA or King's Bay, GA, which is home to the Atlantic "boomer" (ballistic missile submarine) fleet.
